Furnace repair cost in Oklahoma: what to expect
Oklahoma winters are milder than the plains states to the north and considerably less predictable. A furnace here may idle for weeks and then be asked to run flat out through a multi-day ice event.

What usually fails
Ignitor
On a modern furnace, the most common no-heat call. The hot surface ignitor cracks and the furnace cannot light. Inexpensive and quick.
Flame sensor
A dirty sensor makes the furnace light and then shut down within seconds, repeatedly. Often just needs cleaning.
Limit switch
Trips on overheating, which is usually caused by restricted airflow — a dirty filter or blocked returns. The switch is the symptom, not the cause.
Draft inducer
Fails and the furnace will not begin its cycle at all, because the pressure switch never proves.
Gas valve or control board
Less common, more expensive.
Heat exchanger
The one that matters for safety. A cracked heat exchanger can put combustion products into the air stream, and a furnace with a confirmed crack should be shut down rather than patched.
Carbon monoxide is the one thing not to wait on
If you have a CO alarm sounding, a persistent headache or nausea that improves when you leave the house, soot around the furnace, or a yellow rather than blue burner flame, shut the system off, ventilate, get everyone out, and call the gas utility or emergency services before anyone else. That is not a service call, it is a safety call. Every Oklahoma home with gas appliances should have a working CO alarm.

Common questions
Why does my furnace turn on and shut off after a few seconds?
Classically a dirty flame sensor. The furnace lights, fails to confirm flame, and shuts down for safety. It typically retries a few times before locking out. Cleaning the sensor resolves most cases.
Why is my furnace blowing cold air?
If it blows cold at the start of a cycle and then warms, that is normal — the blower starting before the exchanger is hot. If it never warms, the burners are not lighting, or the furnace is locked out, or the thermostat is calling for fan rather than heat.
What do the flashing lights on my furnace mean?
Furnaces flash a diagnostic code on an LED behind the access panel. The pattern maps to a specific fault, and the legend is usually printed inside the panel. The codes are manufacturer-specific, so three flashes on a Goodman does not mean the same thing as three flashes on a Carrier.
How often should a furnace be serviced?
Annually, before heating season. For gas equipment that is partly a safety inspection — heat exchanger condition and combustion readings — not only an efficiency exercise.
System down in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma summers run past 100°F and ice storms take the power out for days.
Neither is a good time to wait on a callback.
